A web solo exhibition by Mino potter Ryotaro Kato will be held from January 10, 2025.
He is currently the most remarkable potter in Japan, having won the 2023 Tojikyokai Award Gold Prize and had an award commemorative exhibition in Tokyo in October 2024.
As stated in the selection reasons for the Tojikyokai Award, “In recent years, his works have been enriched by his studies of tea ceremony and calligraphy. He was selected with the expectation that he will be an artist who works on orthodox tea pottery.”, from his works, which pursue Japanese culture and incorporate that sensibility into his pottery, you can feel the “characteristic of dignity” that Japanese people have cherished.
This time, only matcha tea bowls and sake cups will be featured, but each piece exudes a presence and dignity that it possesses in itself.
