Uchimura is regarded as one of the leading contemporary potters dedicated to the study and creation of Yi Dynasty ceramics and classical pottery. Drawing upon a deep understanding of historical works, he creates tea bowls that go beyond simple reproduction, achieving a level of refinement and presence that stands firmly as contemporary ceramic art.
This piece is a Komogai tea bowl. Its appeal lies in the soft and gentle character of the clay and the quiet, aged atmosphere reminiscent of antique ceramics that have matured over centuries. The form is elegant and well balanced, yet subtle variations bring a sense of natural vitality. Even the interior and foot reveal a dignified character that recalls the beauty of historic tea wares.

1975: Born in Kagoshima prefecture.
1995: Started his careere as a potter.
2002: Opened a studio in Itoshima, Fukuoka Prefecture.
Studied under Naoki Kojima of Sogen Kiln.
2008: Moved his studio and opened Sankyo Kiln.
2018: Solo exhibition at Nomura Museum of Art.
2019: Selected for the “Chanoyu no zokei Exhibition” at the Tanabe Museum of Art.
2020: Selected for the “Contemporary Tea Ceramics Exhibition” and “Mino Tea Bowl Exhibition”.
